Iran labels the RAF and Royal Navy 'terrorist organisations' and MI6 a 'hostile group' in retaliation for Britain's IRGC crackdown
Royal Navy and RAF vessels on escort duty in May, as Tehran cited Britain's provision of military bases and logistical support for the US-Israeli campaign as grounds for the designations.
Iran's Foreign Ministry announced the designations took effect immediately upon publication of its statement on Sunday, citing Britain's "unlawful and hostile actions" over the past year. The move was approved by Iran's Supreme National Security Council and warns the British government it will "bear responsibility for the consequences."
Iran accused Britain of providing military and logistical bases to support what Tehran calls the "US-Israeli war of aggression" against the Islamic Republic.
The RAF has shot down more than 100 Iranian drones targeting British forces and coalition bases, and Iran has fired missiles at British bases at Diego Garcia and in Cyprus.
Iran's July designation of the IRGC under the State Threats Act 2026 made supporting the Guards — even expressing a positive opinion — punishable by up to 14 years in prison.
