Iran's rial has collapsed to more than 2.5 million to the US dollar, a record low, as seven months of war erode living standards for ordinary Iranians already battered by soaring food and medicine prices. Across Greater Tehran, 51,000 security personnel — among them 30,000 IRGC and Basij members — have been deployed as university students take to the streets again over dress-code enforcement, the rising cost of education and political repression. Qatar is pushing for a peace deal even as Trump's denial of any sanctions relief sent oil prices higher.
Iran's IRGC went around its own government to release a 25-page letter addressed to American voters ahead of November's midterms, calling on them to press Trump to bring the war to an end.
Trump rejected any suggestion that he is open to easing sanctions on Iran, even as Qatari mediators work to bring both sides to the table.
