Irish government-funded ad telling grandparents to ask for CONSENT before hugging grandchildren is pulled after minister calls it 'demeaning'

Justice minister Jim O'Callaghan, whose department funds the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre's 'We-Consent' campaign, said the clip was 'inappropriate and demeaning to grandparents'. In the video, a teenage girl looks uneasy as her grandparents go to hug her. The narrator warns 'not everyone wants a hug' even from loved ones. Critics attacked the use of taxpayer money on the campaign.

The rape crisis centre took down all three videos after contact from O'Callaghan's officials.

The Social Democrats accused the minister of starting an online pile-on against the centre.

The 25-second ad ends with the narrator saying: 'Awkward? Maybe. Important? Absolutely.'
