Israeli airstrikes kill son of Gaza health ministry chief as IDF says it targeted Hamas militants

Basir Al-Bursh, son of Gaza's health ministry director-general Munir Al-Bursh, was killed in an Israeli strike near Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza on Saturday. The Israeli military confirmed it had struck several militants, naming Basir Al-Bursh among them. At least three Palestinians died in total across separate strikes in Shejaia and the Sheikh Radwan district of Gaza City.

Munir Al-Bursh lost a daughter in an Israeli airstrike in December 2023 and was himself wounded in that same attack.

In video obtained by Reuters, Al-Bursh carried his son's blanket-wrapped body, saying Basir had warned him: 'Dad, they will target us, you and me together.'

The IDF says the Sheikh Radwan strike separately targeted a Hamas militant, with the blast reducing the vehicle to a mangled wreck.
