Israeli strikes kill eight in Gaza, including a four-year-old boy and five police officers, despite a fragile year-old ceasefire
Destruction in Gaza after Israeli strikes that Hamas described as a "horrific massacre," with more than 1,580 Palestinians killed since a ceasefire took effect in October 2026.
One of the dead in Gaza City was a four-year-old boy killed when an Israeli drone struck civilians near Cairo School in the Al-Rimal neighbourhood; three people died in that attack, with a woman left critically wounded. Five more were killed in a separate drone strike on police officers at work in the Al-Mawasi area of Khan Younis, with the Hamas interior ministry calling it a "horrific massacre." Both strikes came as Trump-brokered peace talks remain deadlocked over Hamas disarmament and Israeli troop withdrawal, with Israeli forces still holding around two-thirds of the territory.
Gaza's Hamas-run health ministry says 1,580 Palestinians have been killed since the ceasefire took effect in October 2025.
Israel says it targeted militants; Hamas denies rearming and accuses Israel of undermining the truce agreement.
More than 74,500 people have been killed in Gaza in total since Israel launched its offensive after the October 7, 2023 Hamas-led attacks.
