Israeli strikes killed eight in Gaza, including a four-year-old boy and five police officers, a year into the ceasefire
Destruction in Gaza after Israeli strikes that Hamas described as a "horrific massacre," with more than 1,580 Palestinians killed since a ceasefire took effect in October 2026.
A four-year-old boy was among three killed when an Israeli missile struck a group of civilians near Cairo School in Gaza City's Rimal neighbourhood, as his grandfather told reporters the family were sitting in their tent when the strike hit with no warning. Five police officers, aged between 23 and 53, died in a separate drone attack on al-Mawasi in Khan Younis as they carried out routine duties.
Hamas called the Khan Younis attack a 'horrific massacre'; Israel says it struck military operatives but has offered no evidence.
Since the October 2025 ceasefire took effect, 1,580 Palestinians have been killed according to Gaza's health ministry, whose figures the UN considers reliable.
A Trump-brokered peace plan has stalled, with no agreement reached on Hamas disarming or Israeli troops withdrawing from the two-thirds of Gaza they control.
