Italy is set to let police detain minors who have committed NO crime and send 500 troops into riot-hit Milan

Defence minister Guido Crosetto attributed the weekend's disorder to a 'hybrid war' against the West, conducted via TikTok, social media and YouTube. Milan police made around 270 arrests, the majority of them minors. Deputy PM Matteo Salvini said under-18s judged to be dangerous could be detained for 12 hours. Authorities are bracing for further unrest at demonstrations scheduled for Saturday.

Chanel, Tiffany and Dior cleared their Via Montenapoleone window displays before officers began patrolling the street.

Giorgia Meloni said protest is a right, but 'setting our cities ablaze is not'.

Hooded rioters ransacked Decathlon, Arc'teryx and Vodafone stores in central Milan.
