Italy's Kimi Antonelli, 20, becomes F1's youngest ever world champion and the first Italian to win since 1953

Kimi Antonelli clinched the title with four races remaining, crossing the line third behind race winner Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton at a chaotic Mexico City Grand Prix. The Bologna-born 20-year-old beat Sebastian Vettel's previous record for youngest champion by three years and 66 days, and his Mercedes boss has drawn comparisons with Valentino Rossi as a global Italian racing icon.

A visibly emotional Antonelli radioed his team with 'We did it, we did it', and later struggled to hold back tears while honouring the memory of his grandfather who has since died.

Verstappen appeared to take a swipe at Antonelli's team-mate George Russell, praising the Italian for doing an 'unbelievable job compared to his team-mate'.

Russell, who finished sixth after a penalty and a mechanical issue, was excused from post-race media duties by Mercedes.
