Jack White, the youngest of 10 siblings, paid tribute on Instagram to Edward Gillis as 'a beautiful soul' who had people 'falling out of our chairs' laughing. Gillis, the eighth child, was the family's guitar player while White was still only on drums. He managed Third Man Records' Detroit pressing plant for ten years. He leaves his wife Angie and children Amelia and Garrett.

Gillis was also an acclaimed pastry chef for the Ritz Carlton and Beaumont Hospital.

He turned vinyl scraps from the plant into small sculptures and flowers.

White said Gillis taught him to string a guitar, fish and drive a stick shift.
