James Abiwon, 29, a tech sales executive and Arsenal fan, was crushed to death in his car when a tree fell during Storm Boelo — two weeks before he was due to celebrate his 30th birthday.

James Abiwon, 29, a tech sales executive, was crushed to death in his car when a tree fell across Dollis Road in Mill Hill, north London, at around 12.30pm on Sunday as Storm Boelo raged. His friend Kwame Affum, 29, said he had played padel with James just two days before his death, and that James had been due to celebrate his 30th birthday in a fortnight.

Affum said James 'got a first at uni, was doing brilliantly at his job, had just won an award — full of energy and talent.'

A witness said James's girlfriend and best friend arrived at the scene in shock, with his possessions visible and covered in blood.

Richard Baines, 60, a curator at Logan Botanic Garden, was the second man killed by a falling tree on Sunday, dying near his home in Dumfries and Galloway.
