Charlie Higson, who writes the official James Bond book series, has publicly doubted whether bookies' favourite Jack Lowden has the physical menace to play 007. The Slow Horses star reminds Higson of Tom Hiddleston's ill-fated candidacy, with Bond needing to be believable "kicking the s*** out of someone". Jacob Elordi was ruled out for being "too tall" but Callum Turner received cautious backing for his "unconventional looks".

Producer Amy Pascal has said the team wants someone "stirring and exciting and different" as Amazon MGM confirms the casting search is officially underway.

Higson admitted he has no inside knowledge on direction, asking: 'Are they gonna go for a much younger Bond?'
