James Cleverly accuses Sadiq Khan of failing London's Jewish community over a decade of soaring street crime

James Cleverly has accused London Mayor Sadiq Khan of ignoring repeated pleas from the Jewish community about safety, insisting the mayor is "duty bound" to act when a community says again and again it does not feel safe. The former Tory cabinet minister, campaigning to become the Conservative candidate for London mayor, said Khan has said "all the right things" but that "words are one thing, actions are another." Cleverly also blasted Khan's record on robbery, pledging to fix what he called an out-of-control crime crisis. Reform UK has simultaneously targeted Khan over the same failures, warning that terrified Londoners are being told how safe they are while crime surges.
Cleverly said that when Khan was elected in 2016, he believed a Muslim mayor sent a "powerful message" about London's diversity — but a decade on, that goodwill has evaporated.
Reform UK has also piled in, accusing Khan of leaving Londoners terrified while he insists the capital is safe.
