James Gunn insists Matt Reeves is still directing 'The Batman Part II' after Steven Soderbergh steps in to finish filming

Oscar-winning director Steven Soderbergh has taken over the remaining weeks of principal photography on 'The Batman Part II' while Matt Reeves deals with a private family matter. Reeves is directing remotely and will return for post-production; Soderbergh's task is to capture footage that will sit seamlessly alongside material already in the can. DC Studios chief James Gunn has been explicit that Reeves remains the film's director.
Soderbergh approached Reeves himself and has reportedly described the first film as 'stunning, intentional, specific and rigorously coherent.'
Reeves wrote on X: 'I am not leaving The Batman Part II — I am profoundly grateful to Steven for coming to my aid during this challenging time.'
The production had already been hit by a significant setback earlier this summer before Reeves' family situation compelled him to step away from the set temporarily.
