Prosecution tells Brand rape trial he bragged of wanting to bed 5,000 women and treated victims as 'means to an end'
Russell Brand arrives at Southwark Crown Court, where a prosecutor told jurors he was "child-like in his expectation that his every desire should be met.Russell Brand whose wife Laura Gallacher, 38, is standing by him throughout the trial, with an associate saying it was "the only decision she would possibly ever make.
Prosecutor Riel Karmy-Jones KC told Southwark Crown Court that Russell Brand was a 'ruthless, calculated and manipulative' sexual predator who spent a decade assaulting six women who did not know each other. Brand, 51, denies three counts of rape, three of sexual assault and one of indecent assault against women between 1999 and 2009. Karmy-Jones said he lured victims with charm and comedy before turning 'demanding and entitled', then walked away 'as though nothing wrong had happened'. The earliest allegation dates to a hotel room during the 1999 Labour Party conference in Bournemouth.
The six complainants met Brand through work, social events or gigs and came forward independently of each other, the court was told.
Brand allegedly told one rape victim 'don't be a spoilsport' and told friends all he had to do was 'tell them what they need to hear.'
Brand, who attended court with his wife Laura Gallacher, maintains all sexual contact was consensual and says accusers 'reimagined' encounters after seeing media reports.
