JD Vance and Mike Johnson hail Democrat Haley Stevens for backing Republican Mike Rogers as Michigan heads to the polls
Sen. Dan Sullivan (left) and fellow Senate candidate Dan Sullivan, whose presence on Alaska's ballot prompted the Trump administration to file a lawsuit it claimed risked voter confusion — a case a federal judge dismissed as "infeasible" after ballots were already cast.
Chuck Schumer called Stevens' move a "despicable betrayal" and Nancy Pelosi accused her of "dangerously" betraying Michigan families, as Stevens' own congressional staff resigned en masse after being blindsided by the Sunday reversal. AOC had phoned Stevens for 25 minutes on October 28, ending with Stevens texting "I'm still on the team" — only for her to appear beside Rogers at a Detroit church days later.
Vance said the endorsement gives moderate Michigan voters "permission" to back Rogers on Election Day.
Ex-Michigan Governor Jim Blanchard, who dined with Stevens on Friday, said "something snapped in her," blaming fiancé Jason Turkish for pressing her throughout the evening.
Rogers said the endorsement "flipped this thing upside down," with Stevens telling him El-Sayed had made clear she was "not welcome" in his campaign.
