JD Vance is branded 'tone deaf' after answering a Turning Point student's housing question with a joke about Jon Husted's backside
Sarah Matthews, a former Trump White House deputy press secretary, wrote that she "genuinely cannot believe this is a real exchange between a voter and the Vice President.
At a Fox News town hall on Thursday, Kate White, vice president of the Turning Point USA chapter at Texas Christian University, asked Vance how young Americans were supposed to marry and build families when the average US home sells for more than $415,000. Rather than addressing the question directly, Vance counted how many questions he had taken that evening and quipped that only Fox host Jesse Watters had raised the subject of Ohio Senator Jon Husted's backside.
Vance did eventually respond, blaming soaring housing costs on undocumented immigration and Wall Street home purchases.
He also admitted he was 'jealous' Trump had repeatedly praised Husted's physique at rallies but never his own, joking he needed to 'get back in the gym.'
Former Trump White House deputy press secretary Sarah Matthews was among critics who called Vance's initial deflection 'revolting disrespect' toward a good-faith question.
