Jeep driver nearly runs over conservative reporter outside Maine methadone clinic on camera

From the Newshound archive · first published 3 October 2026.

Joe Sokol, a reporter for The Maine Wire, came within a hair's breadth of being struck by a blue Jeep Compass after confronting its driver outside the Bangor Comprehensive Treatment Center on Odlin Road. The driver accused Sokol of 'invading people's privacy' and appeared to leave — only to turn back moments later, accelerating toward him at full speed and passing close enough to knock his equipment to the ground. The Bangor Police Department confirmed it is investigating the incident.

The driver accused Sokol of 'videoing across the road' despite the reporter standing on public property with a camera.

Sokol told camera he believed the man was 'essentially, probably intoxicated,' though said there was 'no way to tell.'

The Maine Wire vowed to 'take all necessary actions to demand justice' after publishing the footage.
