Jeremy Clarkson is slammed by F1 team Alpine after joking its driver Franco Colapinto got a penalty 'for being Argentinian'

Alpine issued a statement saying their guest's remarks 'do not align with the team's values of promoting kindness and respect'. Clarkson told Sky Sports' Martin Brundle at the Circuit of the Americas: 'I'd give him one for that.' The 23-year-old from Buenos Aires is taking a 10-place grid drop for engine changes. He is set to start Sunday's US Grand Prix from 21st.

Clarkson linked the jibe to 'what happened when we went there'.

That referred to Top Gear fleeing Patagonia in 2014 amid protests over an H982 FKL number plate.

Alpine's headquarters are a short drive from Clarkson's farm, and it insisted: 'Franco is our driver.'
