Jersey officials seek UK counter-drone help after 'illegal and persistent' drones disrupt airport flights for a second night

Jersey's Chief Minister Senator Lyndon Farnham has called the two nights of drone incursions "deliberate and unlawful" as officials scrambled on Sunday to review the island's response and plan counter-measures for a third night. Police Inspector Rob McCallum said officers believe "two or three" drones entered restricted airspace, and the activity is not considered terrorism-related. Government officials are now in talks with UK counterparts and specialist agencies about deploying additional detection equipment and counter-drone technology.

A charter flight from Madeira was rerouted to Paris Charles de Gaulle, while a British Airways Heathrow service was forced back to London on Saturday night.

Jersey RFC was among those stranded after the team's flight home from Southampton was cancelled following Friday's disruptions.

No drone operators have yet been identified despite searches across multiple parts of the island's west.
