Jet2 flight to Ibiza makes emergency U-turn over France and lands in Paris after issuing distress signal

A Jet2 Boeing 737-800 travelling from Stansted to Ibiza issued a "squawk 7700" general emergency code at 35,000ft roughly an hour after take-off, forcing pilots to execute a 180-degree U-turn over northern France. Emergency crews were on standby as the aircraft landed at Paris Charles de Gaulle before 11am. The flight had departed Stansted at around 8.10am and was carrying passengers on what should have been a routine holiday run to the Spanish island.

The aircraft is a 27-year-old Boeing 737-800 that previously flew with Dutch low-cost carrier Transaviam before joining Jet2's fleet.

Air traffic control data suggests Jet2 plans to continue the flight from Paris to Ibiza once the emergency is resolved.
