Jo Brand says she is 'not terribly good at grief' after losing her parents, two brothers and three best friends

Jo Brand, 69, admits she suppressed her emotions for years after a decade of devastating losses, saying she "just pretended it wasn't happening for a long time because I couldn't believe how awful it was." Her new book, 'Decline and Falling Over', confronts ageing, mortality and grief head-on.

Her mother Joyce, 86, obtained drugs to end her own life while ill in 2021, though she never used them.

Brand says she fears care homes after witnessing "appalling" behaviour by male staff at a residential home where she worked as a teenager.
