John Goodman, 74, credited sobriety, portion control and a health coach with his transformation after shedding more than 14 stone since quitting alcohol in 2007. He appeared on the red carpet in a navy suit alongside wife Anna Beth at the Los Angeles premiere of 'Digger', a new film co-starring Tom Cruise, Riz Ahmed and Jesse Plemons. Goodman said the decision to stop drinking was "life or death" after 30 years of addiction that he described as "becoming more and more debilitating".
Goodman said the key to keeping weight off was 'portion control' — admitting he was 'just shoving everything into my mouth'.
Anna Beth, his wife of 36 years, has been instrumental in helping him battle both alcoholism and his weight, he has said.
The film 'Digger' also features Emma D'Arcy, with Tom Cruise among the stars who stepped out at the LA premiere alongside Goodman.
