Kristin Scott Thomas and Sam Fender's Rolling Stones cover lead John Lewis's 20th Christmas advert, with Mick Jagger's blessing
Dame Kristin Scott Thomas stars in John Lewis's 20th Christmas ad, set to a Sam Fender cover of the Rolling Stones' You Can't Always Get What You Want.
Dame Kristin Scott Thomas, 66, plays grandmother Gloria, who is goaded by a talking vintage toy dog named Pickles — voiced by Paul Whitehouse — into ditching a cash gift and creating a "Gran Cave" of disco balls and a turntable for her grandchildren. The three-minute film, titled 'Gloria and Pickles', marks John Lewis's 20th annual Christmas campaign and carries the tagline 'Don't give up on giving'.
Sam Fender recorded his cover of 'You Can't Always Get What You Want' with a children's choir from his old school, John Spence Community High School, and the Easington Colliery Band on brass.
Mick Jagger said he was 'a fan of Sam's work' and that Fender had 'done a great job with it', giving the cover his personal seal of approval.
The ad debuts on TV tonight during 'Coronation Street' on ITV1 and 'The Great British Bake Off' on Channel 4.
