Johnny Depp's debut sculpture, a two-metre white bronze titled 'The Bunnyman', is set to be presented at Contemporary Istanbul from September 22-27, at Tersane Istanbul, the historic Ottoman shipyard on the Golden Horn. The piece is described as a half-human, half-rabbit guardian carrying a "sword of truth". The unveiling marks a significant step in Depp's growing career as a visual artist, coinciding with a 200-work exhibition at the Modern Art Museum Shanghai.
The sculpture originated from a childhood scribble by Depp's son Jack, aged around five, which reminded Depp of a recurring dream he had at the same age.
Depp said: 'Some character that Jack had scribbled, beautiful scribbles into that shape, reminded me of a kind of recurrent dream that I had as a child.'
The bronze was cast at Milan's Fonderia Artistica Battaglia and developed with Pantheon Art, the company that manages Depp's art.
