At least 22 are killed in Kenya when a bus carrying mourners from their pastor's funeral collides with a lorry
A social-media post reporting the crash on Kenya's Nairobi–Mombasa Highway near Mtito Andei, where at least 22 people died when a bus carrying mourners from their pastor's funeral collided with a lorry, with Makueni…
Mother-of-two Violet Mwandonyi survived the crash but does not know whether her two children on the bus are alive. At least 24 more were hurt near Mtito Andei on the Nairobi-Mombasa highway, and Makueni County Commissioner Abdullahi Khalif warned the toll could rise. It comes three weeks after 17 people died on the same road. Officials say the stretch is a known 'accident black spot'.
'We were all wailing and calling on motorists to come to our rescue,' Mwandonyi said.
Passenger Spenza Mudave said a lorry hit the bus from behind and sent it rolling.
Transport officials suspect 'improper overtaking' and say the vehicles collided head-on.
