The suspects had holed up in an abandoned house in Karak governorate and opened fire rather than surrender. Security forces shot back, wounding all three, and no officers were hurt. Guns and ammunition were recovered from the hide-out. Interior Minister Mazen al-Faraya declared 'We have apprehended the killers', though no group has claimed Friday's attack on St George's Greek Orthodox Church in Hmoud, which also wounded 34.

Prime Minister Jafar Hassan blamed the massacre on 'terrorist takfiri ideology'.

King Abdullah II said the terrorists were chased 'to the very end'.

Survivor Khalid al-Mdanat said the onslaught lasted 15 minutes, and the gunmen fled 'firing as they went'.
