Judge orders Trump to sit for a deposition in his $10bn BBC lawsuit by 11 December or face sanctions

President Donald Trump cancelled his 16 October deposition citing 'matters of national importance'. But BBC lawyer Charles Tobin told a Miami court that Trump spent that day at a rally in Dalton, Georgia. Magistrate Judge Enjoliqué Lett warned that the toughest sanction could be dismissal of the whole suit. Trump's team had offered to appear between 11 and 22 January instead.

Trump's lawyer Alejandro Brito blamed Iran, Ukraine and Middle East unrest for the cancellation.

Trump's legal team branded the broadcaster 'formerly respected and now disgraced'.

The BBC apologised for the Panorama edit but denies any basis for a defamation claim.
