Judge's sentence for 'bright lad', 14, who stabbed a schoolgirl 10 times in Cirencester CANNOT be changed
Judge Ian Lawrie, who handed the 14-year-old attacker a 12-month referral order after ruling prison was the "last place" he should be, despite the boy stabbing his victim at least 10 times.CCTV footage from inside the Cirencester shop where the boy stalked and repeatedly stabbed the girl after she rejected him, also knifing a shopkeeper who tried to intervene.
Judge Ian Lawrie KC told the boy his "behaviour dysfunctionality causes me grave concern" — yet still refused to jail him, handing him a 12-month referral order and a three-year restraining order after he admitted wounding with intent. The sentence cannot now be changed, leaving the victim's mother with no avenue for justice. The girl, 14, suffered cuts to her neck, hands and face after being stabbed with a six-inch kitchen knife in a Cirencester convenience store while a shopkeeper who tried to intervene was also stabbed in the back.
The mother said: 'Does somebody actually have to die to get justice? He's now free to walk the streets.'
Parents of girls murdered by ex-boyfriends called the non-custodial sentence 'appalling' and 'misogynistic'.
