Judge told boy who stabbed a girl 10 times that prison was the 'last place' for a 'bright lad'

A judge at Gloucester Crown Court spared a 14-year-old boy jail for stabbing a girl 10 times with a six-inch kitchen knife in Cirencester, telling him prison was the "last place" for a "bright lad." The boy had stalked his victim after she rejected him, waited outside a shop, and attacked her in a premeditated assault that also injured a shopkeeper who tried to intervene. The girl's mother called the sentence "absolutely disgraceful" and said her daughter now has the "prison sentence" — too scared to go anywhere alone.
The judge, Ian Lawrie, imposed only a 12-month referral order and a three-year restraining order, telling the boy to "keep out of mischief."
'Does somebody actually have to die to get justice?' the victim's mother demanded, calling it a 'slap on the wrist.'
Parents whose daughters were killed by ex-partners called the sentence "appalling" and "misogynistic."
