Jury in Russell Brand's rape trial is to resume deliberations today on seven charges involving six women, all of which he denies
Russell Brand leaving Southwark Crown Court in October, as Ryder Cup winner Bernard Gallacher sat beside him in the public gallery throughout Monday's closing speeches.
The jury of eight men and four women at Southwark Crown Court retired Tuesday afternoon after Judge Mr Justice Bennathan told them only a unanimous verdict on all seven counts would be accepted. Jurors were sent home at 4pm and are to reconvene Wednesday morning to continue deliberating Brand's fate.
Prosecutors called Brand a "ruthless, calculated and manipulative" predator who saw women as "disposable" and treated them as a "means to an end."
Brand's barrister Ian Winter KC argued it is "not criminal to treat women unkindly" or "act like a crazy idiot" if there is consent, and that the 2023 Dispatches documentary "poisoned the well of justice."
The six complainants are strangers to one another and allege attacks across a decade from 1999 at locations including a hotel room, an MTV office, a Soho bar toilet, a recording studio and Brand's own home.
