Kinga Wydrzynska and her daughter Isabella. The mother is accused of murdering the 13-month-old in what prosecutors describe as an entrenched pattern of abuse, neglect and mistreatment.

Kinga Wydrzynska, 26, of Johnson Avenue, Rugby, was the only adult at home when Isabella Stasiak suffered the fatal head injury, prosecutors told Warwick Crown Court on Wednesday. Jurors watched footage Wydrzynska later deleted from her phone, showing Isabella motionless in her arms as she wept and begged the child to breathe. Wydrzynska denies murder; Isabella's father Michal Stasiak, 28, denies a further ten charges including child cruelty and sexual assault.

Isabella had been "unwanted" at birth, taken into care, then returned to her parents nine months before she died on 7 January 2025.

The prosecution says Isabella suffered fractured ribs, a broken arm, a skull fracture and a burn across her entire face — inflicted over at least five weeks.

Prosecutor Annabel Darlow KC told jurors the couple may have taken Isabella back partly to qualify for social housing.
