Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson is the lone dissenter as US Supreme Court lets New Hampshire bar student IDs for midterm voters

The Republican National Committee backed New Hampshire's emergency appeal, and the justices granted it on Thursday in an unsigned one-paragraph order. They ruled that Judge Joseph Laplante should not have changed election rules so close to the 3 November vote. State Rep. Donald McFarlane, who wrote the law, called it 'a victory for common sense'. He said students can get free state IDs.

Jackson wrote that she 'would not disturb a clearly justifiable federal-court order'.

Attorney General John Formella hailed 'an important victory' against last-minute court orders.

The Coalition for Open Democracy called the order 'wrong' and vowed to keep fighting.
