Karl Bushby, 57, is expected to complete his 31,000-mile walk from the tip of Chile back to Hull on Monday — 28 years, 10,220 days and 30 countries after he set off aged 29 in 1998. He reached Britain weeks ago by swimming the English Channel, and is now pushing his supply cart, 'The Beast', through Lincolnshire with roughly 30 miles to go. He told reporters his purpose and reason for living is about to end, leaving him dreading life in his mother's basement.

Bushby crossed the Bering Strait on shifting ice, floated through crocodile-infested Colombian waters and survived a polar bear standoff to get home.

Waiting at his Hull childhood home will be his 36-year-old son Adam and a 12-year-old granddaughter he has NEVER met.

'Odysseus was a bit of an amateur,' Bushby quipped — the Greek hero took only nine years to get home.
