Katie Boulter says cannabis smell wafting from New York park distracted her at the US Open
Katie Boulter, who has complained that cannabis smoke from a nearby park is disrupting her concentration at the US Open, is ranked 60th in the world.
British No 1 Katie Boulter has complained that marijuana smoke drifting from Corona Park into the outside courts at Flushing Meadows broke her concentration mid-match. She is ranked 60th in the world and has opened her campaign against American wildcard Carol Lee. Fran Jones and Harriet Dart have also raised the issue, making it a widespread complaint among the British contingent. The USTA says it cannot control what happens off-site but insists it stays vigilant.
Boulter said: 'It takes you out of the moment and you really don't want to. You don't need distractions.'
Jones joked last year that the smell explained why she was 'playing pretty well', but says this year she will 'lock in'.
Casper Ruud called the cannabis stench 'the worst thing about New York', saying players could smell it from just metres away mid-rally.
