Andy Burnham and Kemi Badenoch clash at PMQs as Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds refused to give his personal view on free movement, offering only "the Government line.

Kemi Badenoch turned PMQs into a show of hands on free movement, challenging Labour backbenchers to publicly back Andy Burnham's refusal to rule out returning to EU freedom of movement — and not a single hand went up. Burnham insisted there is "no confusion at all" on his government's position, claiming his Brexit red lines would hold for the full Parliament. The exchange came with Burnham's October Budget due to be delivered the same day.

Labour MP Melanie Onn broke ranks, warning the Brexit "scars have not healed" and calling the debate "unnecessary".

Badenoch skewered Burnham with his own words from the Makerfield by-election, when he said "the last thing we should do right now is rerun those arguments".
