Kenyan doomsday cult leader is found guilty of murdering 190 children after telling parents to starve them to 'meet Jesus'
Paul Mackenzie, a former taxi driver who founded the Good News International Church in 2003, was also convicted of murdering one adult. Twenty-eight other cult leaders were convicted alongside him, and all had pleaded not guilty. More than 400 bodies were dug from shallow graves in Shakahola forest in 2023, but only 26 have been identified. Mackenzie still faces terrorism and radicalisation charges.
Burials were dubbed 'weddings', Justice Diana Mochache told the court in Mombasa.
Francis Wanje, 62, lost eight relatives to the cult, including two grandchildren.
Mackenzie allegedly planned the starvation in phases: children first, then women, then men.
