'Kick in the teeth': Unite attacks NatWest for ordering 30,000 staff to spend more time in the office
NatWest is scrapping its 'remote-first' category, so 13,497 workers who now come in twice a month must come in twice a week from February 2027. A further 17,272 hybrid staff face extra office days too. Unite's Sharon Graham says most are lower-paid grades facing higher travel and childcare bills. The union claims the bank is breaking its 2025 pay deal and has launched a survey of members.
NatWest insists it has 'learned more about the value' of spending time together.
Unite's Caren Evans: 'For many workers, homeworking is not a perk.'
Barclays softened its own office push last month after a staff and union backlash.
