Welfare payments to around 2,500 serious offenders — including Valdo Calocane, who killed three people in Nottingham in June 2023 — are to be scrapped on the grounds that the NHS already provides their accommodation and meals. Work and Pensions Secretary Pat McFadden is today laying regulations before Parliament to end what he has called this 'double provision'. The change will cover those convicted of manslaughter, attempted murder and rape, and is due to take effect early next year, pending parliamentary approval.

Barnaby Webber's mother Emma called it 'a disgrace' that Calocane ever received taxpayers' money.

Benefits to be removed include Universal Credit, Pension Credit, the State Pension and Employment and Support Allowance.

Emma Webber wants the tens of millions saved each year given to crime victims.
