Kim Jong Un crosses the new Yalu bridge into China and pledges to expand cooperation with Beijing

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un made his first publicly known foreign trip in over a year, arriving unannounced in Dandong by train through Sinuiju. He held talks with Wang Huning, a member of the Chinese Communist Party's standing committee, and the two visited a car factory together. The trip falls one day ahead of China's commemoration of the 76th anniversary of its entry into the Korean War on the North's side.

The 3km New Yalu River Bridge opened on 15 October, 12 years after China finished building it.

Kim aims to rebuild ties with Beijing after sending thousands of troops to support Putin.

Officials imposed traffic controls around the bridge and restricted hotel bookings near a war museum.
