Kimberly Guilfoyle has resigned as US Ambassador to Greece after the White House asked her to step down following reports that she pressured Trump donor Eric Deters to wire $100,000 to pay off her American Express bill days before her Senate confirmation hearing. Guilfoyle allegedly told Deters the transfer "would not show up anywhere" and offered to use her influence with the IRS and Justice Department on his behalf. Deters has since said the request "absolutely was a quid pro quo" and that he paid Guilfoyle around $300,000 over the years without receiving "one favour."
Guilfoyle is vowing to fight back, insisting the allegations are "false" and that she will "vigorously defend" her name and reputation.
Both Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio were reportedly furious over the scandal, which has effectively ended the diplomatic career of one of Trump's longest-standing political allies.
The announcement came during new press secretary Katie Zacharia's shambolic 14-minute debut briefing, in which she called Trump "my president — excuse me, my husband."
