King hosts Windsor state banquet for Sultan of Oman on the first visit by an Omani ruler in 44 years
Omani-inspired cocktails and lavish table decorations greeted Sultan Haitham bin Tarik Al Said in St George's Hall, where the table seats about 160 guests. Prime Minister Andy Burnham was due at his first state banquet since taking office, ahead of Downing Street talks on Wednesday. Oman faces Iran across the Strait of Hormuz and has acted as a bridge between the West and Tehran.
The last Omani state visit was in 1982, when Queen Elizabeth II hosted Sultan Qaboos.
Queen Camilla's vivid red Fiona Clare outfit was seemingly a nod to the Omani flag.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were left off the guest list as non-working royals.
