Kremlin-backed media floods Britain with 40,000 stories a month branding the country 'ungovernable and defenceless'
Russia's state-affiliated media produced more than 40,000 articles about Britain in September alone — a 15 per cent increase — including fabricated reports that UK forces had struck the Russian city of Voronezh with Storm Shadow missiles. Osavul, a risk intelligence firm that supplies technology to Nato, monitored the operation and warned that its goal is to leave Britons with "a lower opinion of their own state." Sir Bill Browder cautioned that without government intervention the assault could "get exponentially worse."
AI has "turbocharged" Russia's ability to run faster, cheaper disinformation campaigns, experts warn.
Invented stories also claimed British police were threatening to jail people who used air conditioners, and portrayed Andy Burnham as "powerless to stop the UK's collapse."
The UK government intends to create a new National Centre for Information Defence tasked with identifying, attributing and disrupting attacks by hostile states.
