Kremlin praises Melania Trump for ceasefire in starving Ukrainian city where residents have survived on weeds
Melania Trump said it was 'abundantly clear' that aid and evacuation would be impossible without her intervention. About 2,000 people remain in Oleshky, mostly elderly, and Russia has held the city since February 2022. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said every civilian who wants to leave will be allowed to go. The truce is due to start next week, and the evacuation is expected to take several days.
Russia has agreed to three-way peace talks with the US and Ukraine in the UAE next month.
President Trump said having his wife at those talks was 'not the worst idea'.
Envoy Steve Witkoff told Vladimir Putin in Russia: 'You are a humanitarian also, sir.'
