Kushner and Witkoff hold Miami talks with Ukraine to forge unified peace deal as war reaches 'dangerous stalemate'

Trump envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff are holding two days of talks with Ukraine's delegation in Miami to shape new peace proposals, following a briefing they gave President Trump on the latest US initiative earlier this week. Rubio has called the conflict a 'dangerous stalemate', while a Russian strike on buses in Kramatorsk left 30 people dead in one of the worst single attacks in recent weeks. The agenda includes potential security guarantees for Ukraine and a framework for post-war economic recovery. Trump has also said separately that he intends to speak with Vladimir Putin by phone.

One proposal under discussion is a partial ceasefire halting attacks on energy infrastructure and protecting grain shipments ahead of winter.

Separately, Ukrainian experts are urging Unesco to protect an archaeological site exposed when Russia sabotaged the Nova Kakhovka dam, warning rebuilding it would be 'ecocide'.
