Xavier Becerra, 68, a California gubernatorial hopeful, stood beside Bass on Election Day and declined to endorse her even when pressed repeatedly by a reporter with the mayor at his side.
In her election-night speech, Bass took aim at President Trump's immigration policies and the sending of federal troops to Los Angeles, rousing the crowd with 'I have never been more proud of our city.'
