Labour's Troubles Bill clears the Commons by 330 votes to 178 amid claims it does too little for veterans

TUV MP Jim Allister accused ministers of drafting the bill to 'spare the sensitivities of the Republic of Ireland'. Northern Ireland Secretary Sir Chris Bryant rejected that charge and denied his late amendments amount to an 'amnesty' for soldiers. The bill now goes to the House of Lords, where scrutiny is expected to run into next year. It replaces the Tories' 2023 Legacy Act with a new Legacy Commission.
Attorney general consent will now be needed for any serious prosecutions.
An emotional Bryant told MPs: 'They're not living in the past, they're living with the past.'
