Labour's Troubles Bill clears the Commons despite Special Forces warning of a 'green light' for veterans' persecution

MPs passed the Northern Ireland Troubles Bill by 330 votes to 178 at its third reading on Tuesday, after rushing through more than 300 amendments in two days. It now goes to the House of Lords. Retired generals Sir Nick Parker and Sir Peter Wall say their 'only hope' is to amend it there. Northern Ireland Secretary Sir Chris Bryant insisted veterans and bereaved families 'deserve answers'.

The SAS, SBS and SRR associations jointly warned veterans face 'endless re-investigation'.

Labour MP Al Carns said the Bill deals 'the best possible hand to our adversaries'.

Sir Chris Bryant denied 'pandering' to Dublin, but the Bill's cut-off date leaves out the Omagh bombing.
