Laughter erupts in the briefing room as Katie Zacharia cuts short her debut White House press conference after accepting just three pre-selected questions in 14 minutes.

'I'd like to do news hits morning and evening,' Katie Zacharia texted a White House official on Wednesday, the day after her rocky first briefing. A Hannity producer had already written on Tuesday that she could join from a rally. One source had called the TV ordeal a 'sanctioned hit' by chief of staff Susie Wiles. The texts show no role for Wiles.

On Fox, Zacharia struggled to explain failing the California bar exam.

She told Sean Hannity she had been in the job 'less than maybe eight hours'.

President Trump then told reporters: 'Katie, do you need this? I don't think you need this.'
