'Leakers should be shot': Trump lashes out at CNN and NYT over Iran strike secrets at Arizona rally

President Donald Trump, speaking at a midterm rally in Bullhead City, Arizona on Wednesday, said people who disclose classified information to reporters "should be shot", and directed his anger at CNN and The New York Times for their coverage of Operation Midnight Hammer, his June 2025 B-2 strike on Iran. Trump said that after journalists published the departure and arrival times of US aircraft, he had to push the bombing campaign back by two days. His administration has launched leak investigations involving polygraph tests and subpoenas served on journalists.
The reporting that drew Trump's attack focused on a Defence Intelligence Agency assessment indicating that Iran relocated enriched uranium ahead of the strikes and that the resulting damage to its nuclear programme was less extensive than Trump had claimed.
