'Leakers should be shot': Trump tells Arizona rally media endangered troops by exposing Iran strike plans

President Donald Trump told a campaign rally in Bullhead City, Arizona, that people who leak classified information to the press "should be shot", singling out CNN and The New York Times by name. He claimed a leak had forced him to reschedule Operation Midnight Hammer — the June 2025 US B-2 strike on Iran's nuclear facilities — by two days after details of the timing were published. Trump called leakers "the scum of the earth" and insisted that in exposing military movements, the media had directly endangered American troops. His administration has already launched leak investigations involving polygraph tests and journalist subpoenas.
The reporting that appeared to anger Trump most related to a Defence Intelligence Agency assessment concluding that harm done to Iran's nuclear facilities fell short of what he had publicly stated.
